Gillette Stadium Traffic
Lillian Higgins
Gillette Stadium has been home to the Patriots since 1971. Foxborough has been dealing with traffic issues since then.
Gillette holds concerts and games with up to 70,000 people in attendance. Now imagine all those people trying to leave the parking lot at the same time.
Most of the traffic issues occur after the events are over because all of those people are trying to leave at the same time.
Emma Wojdag, A student at Stonehill College says she thinks that the traffic at Gillette is the worst part about going to events there.Wojdag says most of the time it feels like you spend more time trying to park and leave the venue than actually watching the event.
Even the people that work at the Stadium have said that getting there can be difficult at times due to the bad traffic conditions.
The neighborhoods surrounding the stadium are also affected during events because the main roads can’t handle the number of cars that the events are bringing in.
Kyle Casey, A student at Stonehill College says its atrocious and it's so poorly run that no matter how early you leave the event you will get stuck in at least 20 minutes of traffic and if you leave the event at the time the event ends you will get stuck in at least a hour of traffic.
Some fans have missed the start of events due to the amount of traffic that there is even before the event starts.
Chris Lee, an employee at Gillette Stadium, even says that getting to the stadium for his shifts is difficult. Lee is especially worried about the traffic during the world cup because most of the people that are coming to those games haven’t been to Gillette Stadium and aren’t going to know how bad the traffic is, and that might make it worse.
With all this being said, without changes to the traffic patterns around the stadium, none of this will change.
